Personal Journey
Having trained initially as a Theatre Artiste, with specialization in Children’s Theatre my journey into psychology began as a discussion with my husband suggesting that I read Psychology to enable me to be of more assistance to some of the members of the National Troupe of Nigeria’s Children’s Theatre Workshop for which I was National Coordinator. Some of these children were exhibiting behaviours I could not understand in addition to social phobia. Commencing with a pre M.Sc degree known in University of Lagos as Occasional Psychology, before proceeding to M.Sc Psychology.
It was during these studies that I came into contact with Social Media and started reading about Domestic Violence, Spousal Abuse, Spousal Killings and Gender-Based Violence. Being in a blissful marriage myself, these information shaped my curiosity about human behaviour, marital relationships and the silent struggles and trauma people carry behind seeming functional lives.
I became increasingly drawn to the emotional narratives beneath performance, conflict, intimacy, and distress. This curiosity matured into another post graduate degree another Masters in clinical psychology. An M.Phil and finally a Ph.D in Clinical psychology. Over time, my work evolved from academic research and beyond the therapy room into public speaking, advocacy, and media engagement.
